COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

We operate The Bookworm in Madoc and as a business we are sometimes approached by other
organisations asking for a donation. We wear a different cap when this happens. Without the support
of everyone in the village, we could not raise the funds we do.

We have happily supported the Madoc Skatepark with a cash donation
and the Playground with the purchase of a swing.

So that the area children may continue to enjoy the Santa Claus parade, we make an annual
donation to the Santa Claus committee. A donation was also made to the Village Square project.

We provide an annual $500.00 bursary for a graduating student of Centre Hastings High School. We stipulate that the winning student be a resident of the Library Board area, which includes Madoc Township, and that they be planning to do further studies which in some way, involve English and Language studies.

For the past 8 years we sponsored a Short Story Contest for Public School students.
We have read some wonderful stories and enjoyed our contact with the young writers.

This year we decided that the money used for prizes in the past would be better spent to support the schools in their Literature and Reading programmes. Along with other Madoc residents, we volunteered at a ‘Reading Day’ at Madoc Public School and we have donated cash to buy books for prizes in other school projects.

We have had three students who did their high school community service at The Bookworm
and we helped the library with hiring students for the summer.

We are proud of our record of Community participation. When we work together like this, we all win.
